Obama plans 21,000 troops for Afghanistan
It was announced Friday President Barack Obama will be sending 17,000 more soldiers to the war in Afghanistan, and another 4,000 will be sent in to help train allied forces in Pakistan, too – to rid the world of al Qaeda and Taliban terrorist groups.
No one seems to be talking about the elephant in the room that is Pakistan. Nearly 50 people died when a mosque was bombed there Friday, and it was very close to the Afghan border. The mosque was along the major supply route of NATO and U.S. forces for the war in Afghanistan. Government officials have been saying al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been hiding in Pakistan for the past year, yet they have refused to assist us. Aren’t Pakistan and Afghanistan also at war?
Obama also proposed legislation Friday to give $1.5 billion in support to the Pakistani people over the next five years. So, we will bomb the country and then resurrect it, right? Let’s remember how these countries treat their women.
No surprise Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Saturday praised Obama’s plan for the war in Afghanistan. In Pakistan Saturday President Asif Ali Zardari also welcomed Obama’s plan to pump economic aid into Pakistan.
We are headed into a shit storm. Sorry for my “French,” but that is what it is. Obama’s warning the U.S. is out to destroy the terrorists can’t be any more direct than that. It won’t be long until “mainstream media” is airing the bombing raids soon to be initiated by America.
As a veteran, I am saddened for the troops shouldering these (illegal) war(s). National Guardsmen, and beleaguered active duty troops are pulling three and four tours. Thousands are being wounded; and here comes another round in another country or two. Pray for their poor families holding on in the states.
When will the American public become interested in these wars?
I am old enough to remember the Vietnam protests, and part of the “Joneser” generation that was on the cusp of the hippies, outlived Disco, and stayed out of wars, for the most part.
We are all worried about keeping our jobs, feeding our families, and staying afloat. But I believe too many of us have put the war(s) in the back of our minds, and rarely, if even, voice an opinion about the fighting. It’s pathetic.
